THE DOULA ROLE

WHAT IS A DOULA?

In Greek, the word Doula translates as "woman caregiver".  While these two words appear simple, they emcompass and embody so much more.  In our current day, a Doula is a trained and experienced labour companion who provides the expecting mother (and her husband or partner) with continuous emotional. physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth.  The role of a Doula is a non-medical one; unbiased and objective, we are here for you to also offer comfort measures, information to allow you to make informed decisions, and facilitate communication between yourself, your partner, and other care providers.

INTENTION

My intention as your Doula would be to support you and your partner along this remarkable journey into a new chapter of life!   Your body was made for this!  Experience the power of yourself - your innate wisdom and strength is ever-present!  My wish for every mother is to experience a birth in which you feel Confident, Respected, Informed, and Nurtured!  It is with a full heart that I say that I had this experience with the birth of my 2 boys.  Their birth experiences are memories that I will forever cherish.  I would love for every mother to have this experience and memory.  I sincerely feel that it's the fuel to my fire! Every mother deserves this.

TRAINING

I am certified and have completed all trainings through DONA International- DONA is the oldest, largest, and one of the most respected doula associations in the world.  I am also a proud member of the Calgary Doula Association.
