SELF DEFENSE SEMINAR WITH BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU BLACK BELT, PROFESSOR DIANA TRANG

Saturday, February 6, 2021

10:00am to 12:00pm

Online link: Link will be emailed in registration confirmation

*** OPEN TO ALL - WOMEN, MEN, YOUTH, KIDS, FAMILIES ***

SUGGESTED DONATION: $40.00

* No cost for those experiencing financial difficulty *

In light of the recent news regarding women and girls in our city being violated (see link below), Professor Diana Trang ("Professor" meaning "teacher" in Brazilian Portuguese), has organized this online seminar in effort to teach others how they can defend themselves through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art originating from Brazil to which she holds a black belt rank.

No previous experience is required to register. Participants will learn valuable self defense techniques and will also be taught the value of adopting these on-going practices for life.

This is a free event to anyone who may be experiencing financial barriers, however, Prof. Diana encourages everyone who is able to donate, to donate.  50% of the proceeds will go towards her non-profit initiative: Kula Projects YYC, which serves to provide financial aid and accessibility to wellness for individuals and/or families who are experiencing difficult times. The other 50% of the proceeds will go towards Budo Brothers Youth Fund, a non-profit which serves youth in the community.  Budo Brother Youth Fund provides financial aid as well in order to bridge opportunities to Martial Arts, a cause Diana supports whole-heartedly.

To get maximum benefit from this online seminar, we suggest for everyone to work in pairs with their families and cohorts in order to gain as much practical opportunity as possible.  If you are unable to find another person in your household, please feel free to join anyways!  There will still be lots to take-away.

---------------------------------------------

Professor Diana has been in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu community for 20 years. Over this time, Prof. Diana has taken part in the growth of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Canada and is one of the first female pioneers of BJJ in Western Canada.  She often volunteers her time to teach at community events like this, and in collaborations with other non-profits and charities in YYC. When she is not running these events, she is regularly teaching Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes, Yoga, and Ginastica Natural (body movement) classes to adults and children at: Satori Wellness Studio and Anderson Goncalves BJJ.  She is an advocate in the trauma community, passionately advocates for healthy and empowering health practices, represents women in a male-dominated sport, and is a proud mother to 2 beautiful boys.
